Being located in Manly, the Whale’s Tail design was influenced by its location. The tail follows the slope of the existing roof, creating a division between the modern and the traditional. The element meets the ground and then wraps around the property creating planters and balconies. The concrete contrasts with the traditional brick, making the element stand out, whilst the use of meshed red brick on the ground floor relates back to the original property’s palette.
The first floor master bedroom overlooks the living areas below through a void, whilst the ground floor opens up onto the garden and entertaining area. The historical front of the property has been maintained with only small cosmetic works taking place to bring its heritage back to life.
