LIVING WITH THE LANDSCAPE

Tucked into a steep cliffside in Sydney’s Inner West, this three-story home turns a challenging slope into its greatest asset. Rather than a standard box, the house is stepped into the topography, mimicking the tropical villas that prioritise airflow and a connection to nature. To the north, the home borders a natural reserve, which acts like an extended backyard that you never have to mow—providing a lush, green backdrop and total privacy.

A LOGICAL FLOW

The layout is "flipped" to make the most of the views and the sunlight:

-The Upper Level: This is your daily hub. Because it sits high on the cliff, the kitchen and living areas are flooded with northern sun and stay cool with cross-breezes.

-The Middle Level: Tucked away from the social noise, this floor is the family’s private retreat, housing the master suite and kids' bedrooms.

-The Pool Level: At the base of the site, the house opens up for entertaining. This floor connects the guest suite and home theatre directly to the alfresco deck, cabana, and pool.

DESIGNED FOR THE ELEMENTS

The building works with the Sydney climate rather than against it. By hugging the cliffside, the home uses the earth’s natural thermal mass to stay warm in the winter, while the open, tropical-inspired design ensures the entire house breathes during the humid summer months. It’s a house that feels solid and anchored into the rock, yet completely open to the trees and the sky.
